About Marjorie
Marjorie Jones is the woman to call if you want to get guests dancing at a private party or set a lively mood at your wedding reception. The Richmond-based solo vocalist brings a vibrant stage presence and deep roots in her contemporary jazz and gospel singing style.
Her performances draw influence from artists like Anita Baker, Jill Scott, and Aretha Franklin. A natural entertainer, Marjorie found her passion for singing at an early age as a self-taught vocalist in church. She was then mentored by choir teachers to hone her vocal and breathing techniques.
Marjorie’s first gig was at age 15, traveling around Richmond each weekend with her big brother. She performed at clubs of Richmond’s past, including Gold Post, Colonnade Room, and Glenn’s. Since then, Marjorie performed before thousands of people at Byrd Park’s Dogwood Dell and opened for timeless soul artist Angela Bofill at Altria Theatre (formerly known as the Mosque).
Most recently, Marjorie has sung at the 2nd Street Festival, Croaker Spot Restaurant, Boogaloo's, Mona's Cigar Bar, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, just to name a few. And her sunny disposition made waves early in the Covid-19 pandemic when she hosted a spirit-lifting front porch concert featured in several local news outlets.
She has performed with many bands, including Cover Story, Cheers Band and Show, Tiffany, Ujima, Debo Dabney and the Happy Band, Marsha Meekins' Jazz Project, and her own project, A Cup of Jazz.
Marjorie offers a one-woman show that is full of great music and lots of fun. She entertains at weddings, funerals, private parties, churches, outdoor events, restaurants, hospitals, senior citizen communities, and nursing homes.
Her custom setlists pull from jazz, gospel, R&B, and Top 40 favorites that will entertain any audience. Jazz hits include Route 66, All of Me, New York, New York, and At Last. R&B favorites include Let’s Stay Together, Chain of Fools, and Time After Time. And she shines in gospel favorites, including His Eye Is on the Sparrow, The Lord’s Prayer, and A Change.
Marjorie's stage presence and vocal talent will pull people out of their seats and help make your event unforgettable.
